🚨 BREAKING NEWS: WIKE’S AIDE WARNS PDP – “2027 SOUTHERN TICKET IS TOO LATE” 🚨

Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, says PDP zoning presidency to the South now is medicine after death, insists party ignored the right advice in 2022.

Wike’s Camp Reacts To PDP’s 2027 Zoning Decision

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its 2027 presidential ticket will go to the South, but this decision has not gone down well with the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Reacting sharply to the news, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the move as “coming too late” and a clear case of “medicine after death.”

According to Olayinka, the PDP lost a golden opportunity in 2022 when Wike and the G-5 governors warned the party against keeping both the presidential candidate and national chairman in the North.

Why Wike And G-5 Opposed PDP In 2022

In the buildup to the 2023 general elections, five governors under the PDP — later known as the G-5 — openly disagreed with the party leadership. The group, led by Nyesom Wike, included Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo).

Their main complaint was simple: it was unfair and politically dangerous for the party to present Atiku Abubakar (a Northerner) as presidential candidate while keeping Iyorchia Ayu (also from the North) as national chairman.

They demanded fairness and balance, insisting that power should rotate between North and South. Unfortunately, their warnings were ignored by the party.

Too Late To Correct The Mistake” – Olayinka

Now that the PDP has finally decided to zone the presidential ticket to the South ahead of 2027, Olayinka says the decision only proves Wike and the G-5 were right all along.

He stressed that while the move vindicates their position, it is “too late to save the party” because the damage was already done in 2023 when the PDP suffered a major defeat.

“Had the party listened in 2022, the story of 2023 elections would have been different,” Olayinka said. “But now, zoning to the South is coming when Nigerians have already moved on. It is too late.”

The Issue Of Fairness And Equity

Beyond timing, Olayinka also raised another major concern — whether the South would even accept such a last-minute offer.

He argued that true equity means the South should be allowed to serve a full eight years before power returns to the North. Anything less, he said, would be an act of injustice.

“This is not fairness but window dressing,” he explained. “The South deserves a full term, not a half measure. Anything short of that is not acceptable.”

Political Implications For 2027

The statement from Wike’s aide is already causing ripples across the political landscape.

  1. For the PDP: The party may face more internal crisis if Southern leaders feel shortchanged or used as political bargaining chips.
  2. For the APC: The ruling party may take advantage of PDP’s disunity to strengthen its own chances in 2027.
  3. For Nigerians: Ordinary citizens are watching closely to see if this zoning debate will translate into real benefits for the South or just remain another political drama.

Analysts say the move could either revive PDP’s lost hope or bury it completely if the South refuses to rally behind the party in 2027.

Wike’s Sense Of Vindication

For now, what is clear is that Wike and his allies feel vindicated. The same advice that was dismissed in 2022 is now being embraced in 2025, proving that their fears were valid.

But the big question remains: Will it make any real difference in 2027, or has PDP lost its last chance?
