Police officers in Kebbi State have arrested two suspected kidnappers during a planned operation that recovered a revolver pistol and several rounds of live ammunition.

The Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Kebbi State Command carried out the operation in Bagudo Local Government Area after receiving credible intelligence about the suspects’ movements. Officers tracked them to a house on the outskirts of town and moved in swiftly before they could escape or harm anyone.

Swift Police Response Stops Kidnapping Attempt

Commissioner of Police Chris Aimionowane said the team acted immediately after residents reported suspicious activity. Because of their quick response, the officers stopped what could have become another kidnapping case.

He explained that investigators had monitored the suspects for several weeks and confirmed that they carried a locally made revolver and three live bullets during the raid.

Aimionowane praised his men for their discipline and teamwork. He also urged the public to share information promptly so that officers can respond faster to security threats.

Recovered Items and Findings

Investigators found a revolver pistol, ammunition, mobile phones, and a motorcycle used for reconnaissance. The police linked the suspects to a wider kidnapping group operating between Kebbi and Niger borders.

Detectives have started tracing other members who escaped from the scene. Their pursuit, according to the police, will continue until the gang is fully dismantled.

Community Effort That Led to Arrest

Local vigilantes in Bagudo helped police locate the suspects. Residents noticed the men moving around suspiciously at night and quickly alerted security operatives. The police acted on the tip and surrounded the hideout. Within minutes, the team captured the two men without firing a shot.

Community members said the prompt police action restored confidence in law enforcement. They also expressed hope that joint patrols between police and vigilantes would continue.

Suspects Admit to Previous Crimes

Investigators questioned the suspects immediately after their arrest. Both men admitted their roles in several kidnappings along the Bagudo–Koko highway. They also revealed plans to abduct a trader before the operation disrupted their move.

According to police sources, the suspects named other accomplices who are now on the run. Detectives have expanded the search and are coordinating with neighboring states. The suspects also described how sponsors provided money and weapons for earlier attacks. Security agencies are now identifying those financiers.

Police Strengthen Patrols

Following the arrest, the Kebbi State Command increased patrols in Bagudo, Augie, and Shanga local government areas. Officers now maintain visible checkpoints along major roads and within rural communities.

The commissioner said these patrols will discourage criminal movements and protect travelers. He advised residents to stay alert and report unfamiliar faces or suspicious behavior. “Anyone who tries to disturb public peace will face arrest and prosecution,” he warned.

Government Commends Police Efforts

The Kebbi State Government congratulated the police for their success. Mrs. Rabi Isah, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Security Affairs, said the government would continue to support the police with logistics and intelligence tools.

She described the arrests as “a major win for law and order.” She also encouraged citizens to assist law enforcement by providing timely information that can prevent future crimes.

Investigation Continues

Police have transferred the suspects to the Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi. Officers are reviewing phone records and communication logs to identify other members of the gang.

After the investigation, prosecutors will charge the men with kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and criminal conspiracy. Authorities have promised a quick trial to ensure justice and discourage others from joining criminal groups.

Public Reaction

Residents of Bagudo expressed relief after hearing about the arrests. Several community leaders praised the police for acting quickly and urged them to maintain consistent patrols.

Social media users across the state also applauded the officers and called the operation an example of effective community policing. Many said the arrests showed that collaboration between police and citizens truly works.

Conclusion

The Kebbi Police Command’s success demonstrates how intelligence sharing, fast response, and public cooperation can stop crime. Through continuous patrols and better communication with residents, the police can prevent future attacks. The command has promised to sustain this momentum until every criminal network in Kebbi State is dismantled.
