Bandit attacks have continued across Zamfara State despite ongoing military and police operations. Communities in several local government areas have reported fresh incidents involving killings, kidnappings, and attacks on farms and roads.
Residents say armed groups remain active in remote settlements and forest corridors. Many people have limited movement because of fears of new attacks. Farmers and traders have also reported growing concerns about their safety.
On 2026-06-25, reports from Zamfara State, northwestern Nigeria, showed that security concerns remained high after a series of attacks and attempted raids in communities across Maru, Maradun, Anka, and Tsafe local government areas.
Recent weeks have seen multiple security incidents in Zamfara. Armed men attacked farming communities, abducted residents, and targeted major roads used by commuters and traders.
Several farmers were reportedly killed while working on their farmlands in Maradun Local Government Area. Local residents said the attackers stormed the farms and opened fire on the victims.
Communities have also reported cases of mass abductions. In one incident, dozens of residents were kidnapped during efforts aimed at discussing local peace arrangements.
The attacks occurred in different parts of Zamfara State. Maradun, Maru, Anka, Tsafe, Gummi, Shinkafi, and Zurmi have remained among the areas facing repeated security challenges.
Roads linking communities have also become vulnerable. The Anka-Bukuyum road and sections around Bagega and Tsafe have experienced security incidents that affected movement and commercial activities.
Several villages located near forest areas continue to face the highest risks. Residents say many attackers use nearby forests as hideouts before carrying out operations against communities.
The attacks involve armed bandit groups operating across northwestern Nigeria. Security agencies, including the military, police, and local vigilante groups, have been conducting operations to counter the threat.
Residents, farmers, traders, and commuters have been among the people most affected. Community leaders say many families have lost relatives, property, and sources of livelihood because of repeated attacks.
Government officials and security agencies continue to coordinate responses. Authorities have maintained that operations will continue until criminal groups are dismantled.
In Maradun Local Government Area, farmers reportedly came under attack while carrying out planting activities. Community sources said armed men arrived in large numbers and opened fire.
The incident added to growing concerns about food production and rural security. Many farmers have reduced activities because of fears of violence.
Meanwhile, reports also emerged of kidnappings involving residents in another community in Maradun. Local leaders said several people were taken away by gunmen and later moved into forest areas.
Security agencies have increased operations across Zamfara. Joint teams involving the police, military personnel, and local security volunteers have responded to several distress calls.
In Maru Local Government Area, security personnel reportedly foiled an attempted attack on communities after receiving intelligence reports. Authorities said security operatives engaged the attackers and prevented further damage.
Police authorities also announced that operations led to the recovery of motorcycles and weapons in separate anti-bandit missions. Security patrols have increased in several communities following the incidents.
Security officials recently reported the discovery of an improvised explosive device along a major road in Tsafe Local Government Area.
According to police reports, the explosive was allegedly planted to target road users and cause mass casualties. Explosive ordnance personnel later destroyed the device.
A separate incident involving an explosion on the Anka-Bagega road resulted in the deaths of police officers during a security operation. The incident highlighted the increasing use of explosive devices by criminal groups operating in the region
Residents in several local government areas say they remain worried about further attacks.
Many people have adjusted their daily activities because of insecurity. Some farmers now avoid distant farmlands, while traders have reduced travel to certain markets.
Parents also remain concerned about the safety of their children. Community leaders say prolonged insecurity continues to disrupt education, healthcare access, and economic activities.
Government and Security Responses
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal recently commended troops involved in security operations against armed groups in the state.
The governor said recent military actions disrupted criminal activities and prevented attacks in several communities. He also reaffirmed support for security agencies operating in the state.

The Zamfara State Police Command has repeatedly urged residents to continue sharing credible information with authorities. Police officials say community cooperation remains important in addressing insecurity.
Calls for Greater Protection
Local leaders have called for stronger security measures in vulnerable communities.
Community representatives say more security personnel are needed in remote settlements that experience frequent attacks. They also want improved intelligence gathering and rapid emergency responses.
Some residents have appealed for increased surveillance along major roads and around farming communities. They believe stronger security arrangements could reduce attacks and improve confidence among residents
Repeated attacks have created humanitarian challenges across parts of Zamfara.
Families displaced by violence often struggle with shelter and access to essential services. Many households have also lost farms, livestock, and income sources.
Local communities continue to support affected families where possible. However, community leaders say additional assistance is required to address growing humanitarian needs.
According to DocuNews Central, the continuing attacks in Zamfara show that insecurity remains a major challenge in several communities across the state.
Recent incidents involving killings, kidnappings, attempted raids, and explosive devices indicate that armed groups continue to pose serious risks to residents and economic activities.
Security agencies have intensified operations and achieved several successes. However, community leaders and residents say sustained action, improved intelligence sharing, and stronger protection for vulnerable communities remain necessary as Zamfara confronts another period of renewed security pressure.
